Welcome to the official informational website for the Hanson Elementary School Building Committee. We invite you to check this website often and use it to locate accurate and up-to-date information.
The members of the Building Committee and the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) have reviewed many scenarios and options to provide an educationally sound, and fiscally responsible solution to meet the long term needs of the Town of Hanson. This web page, along with videos and links, is available to provide the community with comprehensive information about the project.
THESE ARE THE FACTS...
Taxpayers in Hanson know there are issues in some buildings owned by the towns, specifically the elementary schools. 2 town approved Feasibility Studies investigated existing conditions and educational programs at Hanson’s elementary schools and a team of MSBA approved experts examined options for upgrading facilities to meet the needs of the Preschool-grade 5 student population. Following a thorough examination of the two elementary schools in Hanson, an MSBA approved preferred option was identified and the recommendation was to construct a new school. Multiple options were submitted to the MSBA ( as this agency would fund half or more of the costs of the project) and we now have the one identified by their team. This option would mean the town would not fund the entire project through higher taxes dollar for dollar paid by each Hanson resident, but that the MSBA would fund 50% or better of the project!
The members of the Hanson School Building Committee and MSBA have determined this project to be the most educationally appropriate and fiscally responsible option. This committee includes members of the Hanson Fincom and Board of Selectmen who know and understand the financial impact of any project on each and every homeowner in Hanson. Because of the work of many, on July 31, 2013 the MSBA board unanimously voted to approve agrant to the town of Hanson of up to $29.3 million for a new combined elementary school. Important: The town of Hanson owns the school buildings in Hanson. The town and the schools are jointly responsible for the maintenance and repair of school buildings, and any expense that exceeds $5000 must be included in Hanson's Capital Improvement Plan.
