MAQUAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
CSL (COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING)
Positive School Climate – Students learn about empathy, fairness, equality and much more in their classrooms and are asked to use what they have learned in their every day life and at school.
Hanson Food Pantry – Students collected food items to be donated to local food pantry. Classrooms “challenged” each other as to which classroom could donate the most pounds of food.
Jump Rope for Heart – This program is run in conjunction with the American Heart Association. Students solicited pledges from friends and family and jumped rope during their gym classes.
Toys for Tots – Parents and staff members were asked to donate toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Community Readers – Readers from all areas of the community were asked to come in and read to students. We had the Superintendent, former Superintendent, Fire Chief, School Committee Members and many of our retired teachers come in.
Community Members Interviews – The student council interviewed several community members – The Fire Chief, Chief of Police and other members of the school community. The interviews were videotaped and put on our school website and shown to students in the classroom to let them know what these individuals do for our community.
The staff at Maquan School would like to thank our Principal, Ellen Stockdale, and our Assistant Principal, Donna Murphy, for the great support of all of our community service efforts.
